Da’alavon

Once a man named Mancer Vicepra, Da’alavon is not a name at all. In the Old Tongue, it translates as “Defender of the Light”, and it is bestowed upon no common man. There has only been one other Da’alavon in history, being a man named Ereton Dangwerver. Mancer was the last decedent of Ereton, and has been passed on the powers of ioxidine, the marrow of the four powers, Venus of Earth, Mars of Fire, Jupiter of Air, and Mercury of Water. Most of his life found Mancer a resident of Gu dron Abbey, but after it was destroyed by brigands, Mancer created the Shining Force, a group of warriors that traveled the lands and defeated any force of evil. Mancer has taken his powers within, and defeated many threats to civilization, but many more still exist, and he vows never to rest until each one has been defeated.

Nitanius Nolund

A great military tactician, Nolund was once the leader of a powerful mercenary group called the Iron Legionaries. Nolund believed in peace and justice above all else, and his men followed him throughout the lands, bringing help to the needy, and finding a quick end to conflicts. He and his men found themselves trapped in Talorank once civil war broke out, and, rather than fighting in the war to add to the endless bloodshed, he and the Iron Legionaries took up refuge in an abandoned mountain fortress. Sadly, the war had found them. On a routine patrol, Nolund and his retinue were ambushed. Clinging onto the little life he had left, Nolund could not return to his men and warn them of the impending attack, and his men were slaughtered. Feeling guilty for the rivers of blood that were spilled in that castle, Nolund joined the Shining Force, hoping to gain redemption.

Duran

A mercenary from Forcena, Duran lost both of his parents at a young age. His father was a knight of legend, and perished defeating the Dragon King. His mother died shortly after from a terrible sickness, leaving Duran and his sister to be brought up by their aunt. One night, while Duran was on guard duty, a crimson wizard breached the castle defenses, leaving Duran, the greatest swordsman in the castle, barely alive. Anger that he could be bested consumed him, and he took to inner solitary. He left Forcena, vowing never to return until he was strong enough to defeat the crimson wizard, and live up to his father’s name. He set up to grow in strength and skill, and found himself fighting as a member of the Shining Force. Traveling beside Mancer Vicepra, he seeks his revenge for the deaths of his comrades.

Istal

Prince to the largest House in Talorank, he viewed the murder of his father by the hands of his cousin Hawk. This act triggered a war that would consume all of Talorank, with all the minor Houses hoping to gain the throne. With only two hundred knights still loyal to his father, and the House of Istal, he and his most trusted knights, Vilas, Hogis, and Erik, planned a revolution. One night, as Hawk’s men slept, Istal and his men attacked, hoping for enough commotion for their lord to escape. Leaving his men to look for allies of House Istal, Istal traveled far and wide, finding none, at least until he met up with the Shining Force. Each day he prays that his men are alive, and vows that someday he shall return and purge the land of the evil that is his cousin.

Marive

Young, Marive had witnessed the death of his entire family as a child, slaughtered with the rest of his village by cutthroats. His sword his only guide, he forsook his name and past, taking on the title Marive, meaning “The Wanderer” in the Old Tongue. He searches for those that took his family’s lives, and the answers to the scar on his cheek, one that never heals. His skills are known far and wide, with rumors of him turning a ramble of villagers into trained military fighters on many peoples’ tongues. Meeting up with the Shining Force, he added his sword along with the many others, finding a sense of family once again. With the promise of the purification of the world, Marive rides beside the man he views as father and brother, son and friend, Mancer Vicepra.

Agrafes

At one point in his life, Agrafes was Captain of the King’s Guard of Keep Ha’mor. Skilled in both words and combat, Agrafes was one of the king’s most trusted advisors. The king gave orders that Agrafes and a select few of his men were to attempt a suicide mission and assassinate a lord that was encamped just a few miles from Ha’mor. Rather than completing his task, Agrafes sent word to the lord, allowing him to escape his doom. Agrafes’ act of kindness seemed enough to condemn him. One day he found himself fighting off his own men, soldiers he had trained with as a young knight rising in the ranks, to survive. With half a dozen corpses behind, Agrafes escaped from Ha’mor, but was pursued over two hundred miles to Port Daemore, where he was almost killed, but was saved by Mancer Vicepra and the Shining Force. With nowhere to go, Agrafes joined the Shining Force, and refuses to leave Mancer’s side until his debt is repaid.
